Hi all

Not to sure which was the best area to post this! but here goes....

Since I was was young I have always wanted the Nissan skyline R34 gtr vspec. All going well I may be hoping to look at some next year (of course I will be hoping to keep the CL65 also). Just recently started looking about and was surprised at how dear the good spec ones are- not sure if they are collectible and thats pushing the prices up. Anyway just wondering if anyone here has any experience of them and what to look out for. Some for sale that I see at the minute are on the below links:

im not really an expert on these but one thing I'm almost sure of is they will come more sort after with age. I think the r34 was and is the most desirable and depending what your gonna use it for it could be an investment in the future. Off cause this is just my thought on this and I could be wrong lol. But over the years I've watched cars that I owned as a teenager that you couldn't give away back then rocket up in price. Mk1 rs 2000's even maestro turbos. Hooligan cars but try find one now under 10k. I think the next generation hooligan cars, skylines, subaru's are going to be collectable in years to come.

I remember looking at a Bayside Blue one once back in 2001/2002.

It was too rich for me although it was a 1999/T so not that old!

However, it was definitely the nicest looking out of the R32/R33/R34 IMO so I imagine they will continue appreciating.

I don't see that many Skylines (R34 and older) around these days so as the supply dwindles - the usual price mechanics take over to add to the price!

I agree with the investment thing.

I'm not so keen on them anymore - I think the R35 has really dated them but I can understand wanting one...

I just have that itch for one! but would like to have a good idea if what to look out for in them

I had a rs 500 many years ago when I was in my 20's. I was lucky enough to be earning good money back then and it was far from standard by the time I sold it. At the time it was probably one of the fastest cars on the road. I would love to have the money to own one again to store in the garage and admire from time to time. One day maybe. If you can afford it I would scratch that itch.

I was looking at that one on PH the other day, appears it's an insurance write off though "This is one of the cleanest ones available on V-Car hence"

Just goes to show they would write anything to attract you in - how do you know it was a write off

Rk100, maybe have a look into getting one direct from Japan via broker?

I though about that route but I would not be really up to speed in the whole process. It is definitely a route that I may be considering though.

Heya bud. One of my close friends runs a car importing company if you wanna head down that road. Search for jm imports on google. His current demo is a 1500 bhp gtr. He's been in the trade for many a years so you'll be in safe hands.

Hello,
First form post here after recently acquiring a CLS55. I have spent the last 12 years tuning, owning and modifying S & R Body Nissans so should be in a good position to give you some impartial advice.

Broadly speaking the R34GTR is a pretty solid vehicle but don't expect the same sort of refinements you get on a german car. It's plasticy and built (more or less) to a budget even though it's quite an expensive car. The RB26DETT engine is (again) broadly reliable in it's standard form or in a mild state of tune. When you start pushing past about 500hp things can start to get expensive depending on who has done the modifications.

If you get a good one and find somebody you trust to maintain it (Abbey Motorsport for example) then you'll be in good shape. If you find one that's been UK owned for a while has cheap suspension and is full of chinese japspeed bits - walk away.

On the whole, you need to have your wits about you in Japanese performance world. It's like the car enthusiasts version of Moss Eisley.

I would also recommend them, I have known Jurgen for years and he knows his jap cars!

Thanks guys for all the recommendations for importing as this may be a route I go down. Still not 100% sure what I will be doing but it is good to get all the advice on importing and also on the key things to look out for

Says above in my quote that's it is on the V-car register V-Cars and write-offs | MotorTorque Guides

Thanks for that. I would not have been familiar with all the abbreviations regarding write offs and that link is really useful even just to have as general knowledge. Of course if I was buying one I would have the normal checks carrying out for the likes if that. Not sure if it is harder to determine write offs etc for imported vehicles.
