I got a message up in the car a few weeks back saying low coolent . I toped up the cooling system .The car is a 2003 E200 kompressor auto . It has now put up the same message , and this has me thinking that the rad has started leaking into the transmission . The car drives and shifts great . Could this be the cause of the coolent loss , i cant see any signs of colent loss around the engine bay . Any help on this issue would be great . I am gonna change the rad , but would rather waite till after crimbo , when funds will be better .

Take a look at this thread.

You really need to identify your radiator, as 2003 was the changeover year. Is the ATF level increasing with the drop in coolant? Have you any of the symptoms listed in the other thread?

I cant see the name on the rad , so i cant tell if its valeo or behr . I didnt check the atf level , i have no dip stick . The car drives fine and has no symptoms listed in the thread . The car has lost coolent , but i cant see where .

Have a look at your engine oil filler cap for white gunge (head gasket perhaps)

Look at the plastic end caps on the rad if its like lots of little fingers folded over the ebge its the crap rad, if its like a wavey line its the good rad i think!
Lots of small coolant leaks go unoticed so will take a bit of looking to find it.

The rad is a valeo , i checked yesterday , it has the folded fingers . I toped the car up with oil last week and there was no signs of white gunk on the filler cap . I have found some rads in the uk , there only around £210 , so im thinking that because i have the bad type rad that il change it .
Thanks for the relpys lads , cheers

Shorty PM me your VIN, I'll see if I can price one for you, I deal directly with a Rad manufacturerer.
