anyone know if the aerial is a standard part that you can get from Halfords or it it a Merc specific part? Mine's jammed at half mast..the aerial tha is

Always try the dealer for parts first! :)

It's normally a Hischhman (sp) aerial IIRC - fitting takes all of 60 seconds and it's about £30 all in for a new mast.

If you have an original MB aerial, you can get a replacement mask from Stealer for around £12 plus vat (assuming the electric motor in your aerial is okay). Comes with full instruction on the packaging and takes about 5 mins to install. I had already replaced the aerial mask on my C180 twice in the last 8 years. Motor is still fine though.

You will need to proivde your VIN to get the correct part for your car.

Good luck.

motors fine, but the mast is slightly bent therefore won't retract fully. not sure how it was done, must have been driving too fast!

Here is what I did.

Get partner to sit in car while I stand by the aerial. Get partner to switch on radio AND pull gently on the aerial to assist it out. Actually need to do this with new mask in hand - need to loosen nut on radio mask first and assist the aerial all the way out. Inserting the new mask is a reversal.

Found the old box, it is indeed a Hirschmann as Will stated in his post.

Part number is Q52223112 and although I paid £12 for it from my local dealer, http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/find/default.aspx?PartNumber=52223112 is showing this as £16.33.

Then again I only paid £21.08 for 722.6 gearbox dip-stick tool from local dealer whereas http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/find/default.aspx?PartNumber=140589152100 is showing £27.40

PM and I email you the instructions to have a look before you buy.

It's ok - I've fitted mine a while back now - just surprised at the ~ 100% difference in price!

BTW, the 1997 W202 mast is compatible with my 1990 W201 for reference :)

I was hoping that you can compare if the instruction looks identical or not.

There's no instructions on the MB packet - just plain white with a part number on it :)

Fitting was indentical to how you described though. It's a chrome plated mast with a nylon strip to feed into the gears. Same mast as my W201.

there are other threads on here inc a 'how to' about replacing the mast by pluggers at http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=15560&highlight=antenna

You MUST get the CORRECT mast for your car. If its Hirschmann the mast code is on the very top of the mast button, for my 1996 W202 it a code 11 and cost £29.50 from stealers.

Interesting, I have just checked my replacement mask and orginial mask. They are both Hirschmann code 11 and cost £12 from stealer or £16.33 from http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/find/default.aspx?PartNumber=52223112.

my error - mine cost
Hirschmann code 11 mast from $tealer$ was
£16.33 + £2.86 vat = £19.19

This is an old thread but I need to change my mast. I was quoted £58.97 from MB in Swindon today. This was only for the mast, it went to £101 for the whole aerial. (I am only after a mast). Anybody knows where to find them as the last eBay one I fitted (it claimed to be Hirschmann) only lasted 11 months before corroding and half of it falling off
