I am experiencing poor reception on my radio in a 1997 E300 Turbo. I have changed the plug at the head but that hasn't given me any improvement. When I looked at the amplifier in the C pillar I opened it up and found that if I put my finger on the circuit board where the blue & white wire connects to I got perfect reception!

Does anyone know what the blue & white wire is supposed to do and whether it should be live or earthed? The coaxial cable seems OK at that end and the connections to the heated rear window are fine too.

As a temporary solution, why not solder a metre or so of wire to the circuit board and on the other end connect a small bulldog clip. You can the attach the bulldog clip to any convenient part of your body to get good reception whenever you want to listen to the radio.
Easy!

(To avoid possible litigation - this is not meant to be taken seriously and is only a very poor joke)

When you put your finger on the connection, your body is acting as an aerial, that would show the the lead to the radio is OK, so either the amp or the aerial is at fault, its nearly alway the amp

Thanks for the suggestion Verytalldave I am assuming that you have long arms and so don't need the wire and bulldog clip? I could employ a professional passenger to sit the back seat with their finger on it all the time whilst hanging out the window for better reception!

Thanks also Television, what I'm trying to ascertain is whether it is the amp at fault or whether it's the blue & white wire which powers it, in which case the wire is at fault 'cos I know there's no voltage from it.
