radio code for early SLK

am planning to buy an early SLK ( circa '98 ) and would like to know if radio on these cars requires recoding when battery disconnected.
If so will need to make sure code is in the paperwork.

The dealer will give you the code for free if you take down your V5 with Vin #
Unsure if the radio needs a code or not.

Calculators do not work on all MB radios, for example those made by Alpine.

I've used it before on my old BMW 3 series and it worked a treat, I can't vouch for it with MB but suppose it's worth a try seeing as it's free.
