CLC 180 Kompressor
Hi guys, this may be a dumb question, but how can I tell if I have I rain sensor?
I've got a 58 CLC, S.E. Behind the rear view mirror there is a sensor on the windscreen. However is this just for the auto lights? I can't seen to figure out if the car has auto wipers? My wiper stalk has 1, 11,111 settings. I assumed setting 1 was intermittent/auto? However it just seems to be intermittent! I tried flicking water over the sensor to imitate rain but the wipers just responded it the normal intermittent pattern? I can't see an adjustment for the interval either? Not had the car long, so am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for the help guys.

SA code of your car data card will tell (code is 345 if remember right). Intermittent working is happening is sensor is broken or cable behind the mirror unplugged. If there is no rain sensor installed, interval cannot be changed, which is stupid. I believe car as new as yours should have rain sensor as a standard option...

i was having problems with mine..........always too fast...........but a decent clean of the windscreen seemed to have done the trick.

different symptons to yours but it might help cleaning the screen just in case the sensors are slightly obscurred by some crud?

Thanks, but my car is always spotless. Windows always cleaned with Autoglym fast glass etc. Wiper blades cleaned using rubber cleaner and then finished with ultimate rubber rejuvinator.
I'm just trying trying work out if the car has auto wipers or not. :)

An easy way to tell is to stand in front of the car and look at the windscreen at the area of the rear view mirror..
You will either see 2/3 sensors in which case you haven't got a rain sensor..
Or
You will see lots of sensors 8 - 12, in which case you have got rain sensors..

If your car does NOT have a rain sensor then it will look like the first photo below..
If it does have then see 2nd photo

Thanks so much for the pics Simon, That's just the info I was looking for.

Well that's cleared that up then, mine looks like the first picture, so i do not have a rain sensor, or auto wipers :(

I also cannot find a way to adjust the speed of the intermitant wipe, Thats so dissapointing, as even the most basic of marques have control over the intermitant speed. I really expected more from MB.. :(

Thanks again for the info and pics Simon, your a star ;)

Jools.
On my 2005 C270 Cdi I did actually retro fit the sensors and effectively made it factory fitted rain sensors..
I cant tell you if its been done on your model or not..
Its quite involved and needs coding on STAR.

Thanks Simon, a little more work than I actually wanted to take on. Just a little disappointed as I thought seeing 2 sensors meant 1 for lights and 1 for the wipers. I'll just have to get used to manually operating them. The hassle is only when its not raining hard enough for the speed of the intermittent interval, but no great shakes I'll get used to it lol. Just seems a backward step from my previous cars
