I am looking to get my recently aquired 124 estate re-sprayed.

I want to stick with original colour (light metallic green). Will this save on cost?

I am also looking for somebody who can do a good job at a reasonable price.

I live in Kent but if the price is right would travel to have the job done. My plan is to get the car back to it's orginal look.

I will fit some replacement parts before any paint. Bonnet, Tailgate and drivers door.

Any interest ??

If you haven't done it already, I'd have a good look round underneath and deal with all the mechanical & rust issues before painting it. There are lots of unique parts on 4-Matic models and they all have to come from Germany. Some bits are NLA. In general they are hard work as lots of things are almost exactly the same as a 300TE - but still different

It's worth making sure the ABS light (and ABS) work correctly. The last 4-Matic I saw had non-functioning ABS & 4-Matic due to wheel sensor problems. The bulb had been removed to hide the fault. It should have failed an MOT like that but hadn't

To get a decent finish from a respray you need to have all the window trims, windscreen washers, tailgate badges, indicator repeaters, door locks & etc removed. If I were doing it I'd also want the front grille, indicators, headlights & rear window trims removed

If you're planning to have the roof painted you'll have to deal with masking up the roof strips & roof bars

I don't think a colour change is a good idea. To change colour properly you have to spray the door shuts, engine bay slam panel, fuel filler housing & etc. I'd definitely get it done the original colour

Many thanks. Plan would be to stay with original color.

1). That's how it was built to be.

2). All the reasons you give.

Mechanically the car appears good. Previous owner is a Merc Tech. It does have one rust hole in the O/S rear wing under the window. I am hoping that is repairable without the need for replacement.

The car deserves some TLC and It certainly looks and drives well. The 4matic is sound and we have not rattles or rolls.

Happy to drop buy your place if you would give a quick once over to check my sanity.

You can sometimes get away with a "waist down" respray which avoids all the hassle with windows etc. Just depends on the overall state of the body. Rear wheel arches can be a problem along with rear sills/jacking points and front mounting points for the rear subframe. These are the commonest MOT structural failure points on these cars.
