When my car had its first service, so we're back in 2005, it was very confusing then and I couldn't get a straight answer out of the dealer - they didn't seem to know what they used!
It was considered vital to use the right oil to maintain the extended service interval that MBs had then. I ended up buying Motul MB Specific oil from Opie Oils and supplying that.
When DPFs starting being fitted there were a few threads about dealers who admitted they were still using the same oil in everything and it wasn't low ash.
