rear headrest removal

how do you get the rear headrests out? i followed the haynes instructions but no joy no matter how much i moved the 'little black clips'

please help before i take an angle grinder to them!!!

ta. i'm sure that is what i was doing, although the thread states push the black 'switches' in, i was raising them as advised in the haynes manual. i will give it another go on the w/e...
