Hi, I've just purchased a 2001 W210 E320 CDI Avantgarde. There is a small amber light on the bottom of the rear view mirror that illuminates at night. Any idea on how to turn this off? I've looked in the owners manual but couldn't find anything.

Thanks

erm , i don't think its possible to turn off the ambiance lighting to be honest with you. you might actually need to take the mirror apart and do it like that ..

You could just stick a bit of 'gaffer tape' over it .

Alternatively , the wiring probably goes down into the mirror from above , presuming there is an interior light in the roof close by the mirror , you might be able to pop the light unit down out of the roof and look at the wiring ; there may be a wire you can disconnect / snip to disable this annoying light .

Quite why anyone would want a distracting light inside the car which reduces outward visibility beats me .

Amber Glow

Hi, is that not the indicator for your Auto Dipping Mirror, it is on my 163
Should turn green to indicate that the mirror is functioning.

mind you I'm probably totally wrong

Some merc's come with this ambinet light and you cannot turn it off. It's powered with ignition power. You can pull the mirror apart and cut the wires off if it really annoys you.

Thanks all, guess I'll have to get use to it.
