Hi all, have a 1999 C43 and would like to fit the DIMMING rear view mirror as mine just has the standard non dimming one.....So questions are 1-Is it possible 2-Whats needed i.e looms and stuff and 3-Part numbers especially of the mirror in black. Thanks in advance

Hi,
1, Yes it is possible.
2, All you need is the mirror, it plugs directly into your overhead light console, only takes approx ten minutes, see how to in link below.
http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/howt...r-view-mirror-fitting-w208-facelift-w202.html
3, A black one will be hard to get as a dimming rear view mirror was a rare option, and IIRC black mirror was only used on a 202 and 208, though i managed to get a black one for my 43 i could,nt get a black one for my C230K, and had to settle for a grey one and to be honest grey suits the colour scheme better than black.
All you will need is the mirror a 210 or 208 one will fit.
See e-bay links below for a mirror,

Hi Andy
Thanks for the fast response. I'm really after the part number as I need to buy it from the dealer to give to a company in America for a modification I have in mind. If you can help me out with that, that would be great too.

There is a part number on the ebay auction.

Thanks npuk, didn't see that! Does that part number relate to the colour as well, i.e. would a black one have a different digit to denote colour?

I would think it would. Just tell the parts department what you are looking for and they can look it up on the EPC and check the various colour options. Better pack it up well to make sure it gets to the USA and back to you undamaged.

Hi,
Part number for a black Dimming rear view mirror.
B6 681 8609, this number may have been superseded but will be sufficient to identify the new current Pt. No. if this part is still available.
I believe they now retail in the region of £400.
The price in the 2000 accessory catalogue was £142.65.

mirrors dont normally carry a colour code on the part number

coulor codes are normally four digits on the end of the 10 digit part number.
if the part doesnt have a colour code you can granuntee the EPC will state the colour.
NOW
if you can get the vechile details of a car with a mirror to your spec that will make you life 10 times easier

This number is specifically for a black rear view mirror, the light grey and biege mirrors also have specific individual numbers, when using this number there is no need to apply a colour code.
You could also buy an additional wiring loom, which runs from the overhead light cluster to the drivers door separation point, this then provides a feed for a dimming drivers door mirror, installing this loom is very easy, and it also just plugs into the cars existing connectors.

The number i quoted i believe was sold as a "retro-fit" kit and it came with specific installation instructions too (these are scanned in on the forum under the how to i posted earlier in thread).
I don,t think these kits are available any more but the numbers now superseded to its equvilant mirror, exactly the same i believe but with no instructions, but with that how to who needs instructions.

Hmm that's interesting. Can you retrofit this to a CLS as well ? C219 series ? Never had a car without it - didn't know how much I missed it !

Hi,
Have you looked through the accessorary catalogue for the CLS as it will be listed in there if it is a relatively easy fit, which I think it will be though you may be hard pushed to locate a second hand dimming mirror, and may have to buy new from MB.

What is the intended mod Specialeffects?
I'v been reading up on lazar/radar detectors and the valentine one rates quite high and so am looking into getting one,Anyway a company in the states can mount the display inside the rear view for a more stealth look.

Ive had a vanentine 1 for years. great wee device :) lots of false alarms tho , even on the E European mode.

Is it worth the extra compared with other devices? Its mainly (for me) for the rozzers with guns that you dont see till the last min.

So i got hold of a black w202 dimming mirror, however contacted my guy in usa and he said that he couldnt mod that one as it uses a different dimming thing or other. Anyway new questions......The mirror i need is one off a c class 05/07 with the sensor 'eye' in the middle top of the mirror and not the top right. Are the mounting brackets interchangable?i.e the bit that mounts to the car is on a ball and socket assy where it meets the mirror can they be swopped and could the wiring looms be spliced together?

£159.39 from Inchcape so inflation hasn't been too hard on it!
