having a spell of hot weather the air conditioning is well loved by me and my passengers, but I think I have a problem with the recirculation element of the system when I press it in nothing happens I believe the fan speed should increase is this correct, what could be the possible cause,,,

Fan speed does increase, but I think you would only notice if you have the fan on something less than maximum as on 5 it's pretty noisy anyway.

The red light at the top of the switch should come on too. Do you see the light?

The recirc switch in my 190e was the culprit! If I mashed it hard enough, I could get it to come on for short periods of time. Perhaps you could experiment with the switch before heading off to an auto electrician?

I noticed this on mine, and after some experimentation discovered the following -

The fan isn't getting louder because it is probably already in recirc mode - If you have set temp lower than can easily and quickly be achieved, then the system will automatically enter re-circ mode in an effort to try and deliver your desired temp. You cannot overide this by hitting the recirc button, and the light will not come on to tell you that it is in re-circ mode.

If you turn the wheels back towards the white section then when the cabin temp matches the setting on the wheels the re-circ mode will disengage automatically.

If you run with the wheels on full blue, the system will never get the cabin temp down that far, especially with passengers breathing nasty hot moist air out, so you'll be permanently in re-circ mode.

The recirc button does not alter the fan speed, it changes a flap to change where the fan sucks the air. The sound of the fan changes but that is because of the different flap setting.

If you move both wheels to fully cold then the fan will speed up as neccessary to speed cooling.

The recirc autmatically switches off after a preset time, same on all cars with electric controls.

Usefull to use recirc when you first get in a very hot car, the AC works quicker by cooling already cooled air from inside the car.

wow

all this for one bloody button makes sence ?? mb do make thing easy  when i press the button the light dose come on but will have to wait 4 weeks to try the temp controls as its away at the body shop haveing a full body refit
thanks all

The recirc button on newer models has a tunnel mode on it.

If you were driving allong with the windows open and youre coming to a tunnel. Press and hold the recirc button down and the windows will go up and it will only use the air in the cabin. Once out the tunnel press and hold the button again. It will go back to sucking new air in and will also reset the windows to the exact position they were in before the tunnel :)

Clever or what ...... or is this the crap they are talking about leaving out :D

I tried this on a mate's C200K Sports Coupe last night .. it was amazing (it closed the panaromic roof too). She was stunned, and thinks it's a wonderful feature, as do I -- but not available in my W202 :( :(

That is a very clever idea - I'm sick of being poisoned by fumes going thru tunnels !

In fact, I'm going to have to change my car now, just to get that feature !!

(.... well, maybe not just yet!)
