One of the bulbs in the A class has blown (dipped beam). I am thinking of replacing them with something brighter but dont want to go the full Xenon retrofit or HID upgrade. I simply want much much brighter lighting with a Xenon look if possible. I dont want something that just looks blue like a Barry boy car though.

So does anyone have any recomendations for me? Prefarably from one of the major brands out there.

Thanks in advance.

I have used Osram Silver Stars on the Passat and Boxster and am very happy with the results. These were fitted several years ago and more recently AutoExpress have gone off then in their tests.

Other than the occasional motor-head here, who remembers Paddy Hopkirk, Pat Moss, Cibie Super Oscars and Carello pencil-beams, my continent doesn't know the Osram name- they're marketed here as Sylvania Silver Stars. They'd been the top bulb since their introduction, but of late I've been hearing rumbles about them going dim over time (which I'd learned in the days of the Lucas 100 lamps wasn't supposed to happen with halogen-filled quartz envelopes, as the halogen group of gasses made the thrown-off tungsten bits re-deposit on the filament instead of on the glass).
However, no one name has risen to prominence as yet. The "performance" drivers here seem to have some unsavory lust for "blue" bulbs, which generate fully half the lumens of the cheapest Bosch bulb.
Eh, they don't grasp a good Hella lens/reflector replacement assembly, either.

Thanks all.

An order for a pair of Phillips X treme bulbs has been placed.

have been on vacation and only piced this up know. You might also try the osram nightbreakers. IMO same output, but cheaper and seem to last a bit longer.
