Reduction in main dealer service pricing

Looking at the prices for servicing in this thread makes me wonder how much money I have saved over the last 17 years doing all my own maintenance, must be in the multiple thousands. I did have her "professionally" serviced in the warranty period and greatly resented that even. All TCs should have a drain plug, manufactures penny pinching as always.

Interesting thread. Just had an A service (year5). Dartford quote was about £540. Sounthend was £376.

One of the main reasons I contiune with dealer service is the inclusion of the MB breakdown service - best around IMHO = The fuel cap lid on car would not open - they came out and replaced and MB dealer had a few weeks wait. Then EML came on some years ago - car hesitating like no ones business - breakdown came tried to sort, noted nox prob got me booked into a dealer and car rapired within couple of days - the MB breakdown guys know what they are doing

It's run by the RAC and judging by the woeful reviews they've been getting lately, it might be very different next time you use them.

Thanks, I'm aware of that. When I rang for the fuel flap not opening - the lady on the other end of the phone recommended that if I could wait until the next day she'd get me a MB technician rather than RAC with a better chance of getting car fixed there and then. The MB guy in the MB arrived and replaved the acurator I think its called for about 40 quid if mem serves me well and it went wrong again about a year later, ie in 2023 August i think it was and they/MB guy came out and replaced it again FoC as its under at least a 2 yr warranty/parts I think

The RAC has been operating it on behalf of Mercedes for quite a while now, easily more than five years. I’ve used them quite a few times - including Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Each time I have used the service was just as good as it was almost 20 years ago when I first used it, back when it was operated by Mondial Assistance. No complaints here.

A Mercedes specialist patrol is better able to deal with Mercedes specific issues, as they’ll have STAR and some of the most commonly needed spares on board / some are still FOC.

The only disappointment I had was when they had dispatch an independent recovery firm during lockdown and they fried the reversing camera module and Mercedes didn’t pick up the bill.

Goingly slightly OT = I've tried to find out if the sepcialist Mercedes vans with MB logos/etc will now be phased out?
If that's the case, then there will be a lot more cars going to a main dealer/MB IMO

Do you mean phased out as a result of RAC providing the service? If so, then there still MB specific patrols in early Summer 2023 and that was probably five years after the RAC took over from Mondial.

Yep I noticed that too - my B4 service is due (spark plugs, sunroof, air filter as additional). They quoted £700 about 2 months ago when I checked. Checked now and its £520.

Decent for main dealer standards but the Indy was £377 all in.
I wish now that I didn’t have 24 spark plugs 😭

Not sure what you are saying but to make my earlier post clearer - I asked if MB dedicated vans & technicians will be phased out. If so, IMO, more MB cars will go to main dealers when the breakdown service is called out that does not specialise in MB, hence resulting in more cars not being repaired on the roads0de/drive etc.

I perhaps wasn’t clear. If your point is that the MB specific patrols will/might stop because they are now operated by the RAC, then there’s no need. MB specific patrols still operate just as they did when Mondial operated the service.

The RAC have operated the breakdown service and MB specific patrols for more than 5 years now and so whilst the RAC or MB may change the service in future, they have been happy to operate the MB specific patrols for quite a while now.

A general RAC patrol might be able to get to you quicker but if you want one then just ask for an MB specific patrol. Even on Christmas Day 2022 there were two operating in my area, so on a normal day there will be multiples more.

Had a bit of a disappointing call out with Mobilo last week.
problem with our V220 with FMBSH. Fault diagnosed by the MB tech in his MB van and shirt. He couldn’t or didn’t fancy fixing the problem so pointed me in the direction of the MB workshop. I called my local MB to book the car in, they required a payment of over two hundred pounds to carry out a diagnostic…. do they not trust their tech ?? suddenly seems a little worthless as the fix was not covered either.. EPB actuator.
