Registration issue

Hi, having excitedly bought my first ever - e220 cdi elegance w210, I tried to insure it with current insurer.

I was asked 'manual or auto' to which i replied auto. The girl on the phone told me that the reg was linked to a 'manual' car but after some discussion and confusion she asked if the car had the option to drive in manual (Tiptronic?)

Very confused and to be honest, concerned. Anybody else had this?
She also tried to tell me there was no auto option on this model, something I laughed at

AFAIK it's classed as an automatic gearbox with optional manual use and is similar to the VW/Porsche “Tiptronic” system .

I would call it an automatic because there is no manual clutch.

The definition of manual or auto is the clutch pedal.
Two pedals (I know.... don't mention the parking brake already!!) is Auto
Three pedals is manual...

Its how its decided on your driving licence.

The car is an Auto, either it's incorrect on their database, or She got confused.
