Remapping recommendations

Just an uninformed question: a decade or so back, people would recommend DMS Automotive for this kind of tune. I almost used them, never did. They still seem to exist but nobody here seems to recommend them for our cars and are not really spoken about. Are they no longer a thing?

There predicted gains seem a little high
469 BHP-620 bhp stage 1

They are still around, I'm not sure why they don't figure in the chat though. I think it's probably more to do with MSL building their reputation in the Mercedes tuning community, than anything DMS are doing wrong. I've personally never had any experience with using them.

Indeed that is what I have seen a lot of comments about re. DMS. They are a little too 'enthusiastic' in their Stage 1 projections v. what is ACTUALLY achieved...

When i was getting remap quotes, dms were much higher than everyone else.

DMS claim inflated figures, charge more than most and actually deliver essentially the same results as everyone else.

Never looked into getting a remap before. Hearing it adds c. 20% to the average insurance bill. Is this about right for a Stage 1? I am currently insured with Direct Line. Any idea if they entertain modifications such as that or would I have to suck up the cancellation costs etc. and look elsewhere for cover? All guidance appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Direct Line won't touch modified cars, or at least they didn't use to.

Adrian Flux deal with several firms that cover modded cars.....often quoting less than stock spec cars...as was the case when I had a tuned, lowered and imported spec Mitsubishi GTO. It was cheaper to insure after I modded it....albeit with different insurance provider. I think that if you are past a certain age and still mod cars you are an enthusiast that looks after your modded and improved car rather than a boy racer that thrashes it about!

Any photos? Used to love the GTO’s. 😍

Was about 20 years ago...so no pics. It was the model that was sold as the 3000GT in the UK.Transverse 3 litre V6 turbo with 4WD and four wheel steering. Same colour as this one with black leather

I would wait until the Direct Line insurance expires before considering a remap should Direct Line refuse to insure a remapped car.
Privilege insure remapped cars, as do A Plan brokers and LV . I would steer clear of Adrian Flux personally (long story).

I'm sure the Bradford branch of MSL will do a perfect job when it comes to remapping your S63. But I would prefer to use the experience of Acid and his lads at the Birmingham branch over any other venue. They did a great job on my previous M157 engine.

My insurance with Direct Line doesn't expire for 11 months. Oh dear...
