renew your vehicle licence online??

This has been going a while now and I've used it on Edna. It's very easy!!. Will use it next time hub's as he now has, as of yesterday, a nice new shiney compatible MOT certficate:rock: :bannana:

Only thing to remember with it is to do it at least 5 days before your tax runs out as some people have been caught out. At least with the good old posty office you can go on the last day of your current tax;)

I was one of those caught out people. Stopped by the Law. Told I was illegally on the road. My arguement was that I had paid my fee therefore I was entitled to drive, but no. The law is the law. Wont be using the service again when my PO is round the corner.

Except you have to queue up for at least five days if you go in on the last day anyway....

I'll try the online system next time.

I wish they used the online system for taxing HGV's.
Queued up in Maidstone DVLA office for 5 hrs, just to tax it:crazy:

Please go to the post office, Post Masters are not having an easy time of it and the commission is needed to keep them open.

I thought they just got paid a flat salary (based upon turnover and services provided) for running the Post Office.

Maybe I could of defined it better, that was the reason so many closed after pensions and benefits where paid into banks to lose Road Fund wil be another nail in the coffin.

Fair enough. My mum was a sub-postmistress for many years (not that that has anything to do with owt).

It would appear that you can now renew your vehicle licence on line- they post it to you

Posted this same link many months ago. an excellent service, but please allow a reasonable time for the disc to be delivered. I think ours took three days.

What impresses me though is that the DVLA knows that the vehicle has a current MOT (where required) and also insurance.

I would luv it, luv it if say the Tamar Bridge had a trap door, so any car that goes over the bridge falls through a trap door and into the depths of the Tamar if it is not insured :D (just joking  )

Trust me to be months behind the times.:o

I think by reposting it you have helped point out this very convienant method.

Well done I say,
John

I used the service a couple of months ago and everything went well. Got my tax disc 2 days later.

Yup very effectient system, you can renew the licence from the 15th day of the last month of your present licence, did mine on the 15th (saturday) and got it on the 19th.

Although i can say much for the actual 'we dont need to look here' promise the DVLA advertise, i know of several people who have been more then 2 weeks late in renewing their tax discs without so much as a letter of reminder or notice of action. seems like the net has a few large holes!

Also know of someone who forgot their MOT was due in September 05 and only just recently realised and got it done without so much as a question from the MOT testing station.

I got two renewals in the past week. The first for darling daughter's car - with a nice reference number to do it online:rock: . Then mine came today for Edna - but no online ref - so no option to do it online. Any idea why? I wonder if they'll only let you do every alternatie one or similar so that a person actually gets to see your documentation.

Pretty miffed about it really - was expecting to just press a few keys and Bob would be my uncle - instead of which Uncle Sods come out to play:mad:

Has Edna had her first MOT? The details have to be known to the DVLA before they'll allow on-line tax.

Pammy,

Is Edna of a certain age? I ask as I've just had one of the new MOT certs issued and, ever the boy scout, read the back of it. It seems that in order to access the on-line tax facility one has to register one's MOT. Done, so maybe next year I can do it online.

Don't know if that helps.

I tried to tax this way....didn't work....so tried the local sub post office and found that they could not do it either. I had to go to a "proper" post office!Don't know if that's a local or national thing.

Ian - Edna will be three on 16th July :p - yes we'll have a party :D I taxed her online last year and expected to be able to do it this year too as the tax is due before her MOT is due.

Hubby's MOT cert is one of the new ones as is darling daughter's. Didn't know you had to register them though - thought all that was automatic:eek: Will have to look into it when I get home :o
