Hello

I am negotiating to purchase a CLK cabriolet (with FMBSH) and the dealer is offering the car with a Repair Warranty by a company called Vehicle Guarantee Services (VGS) Ltd.

From everything I know about these types of warranties and especially that I have read about VGS these warranties usually aren't worth the time of day.

So my question is simple, how much do these things usually cost and therefore how much should I negotiate off the asking price when I tell the dealer I don't want the thing?

Thanks
Jonathan

Don't take the warranty, as you have mentioned already waste of money and better to put aside £50/75 per month for repairs....negotiate hard I would think you should be able to get a few hundred off the price...

^That.

Of course the seller (non-MB dealership I presume) want you to have one; he gets commission on that too! Lots of get out clauses with almost everything being attributed to wear and tear come claim time when reading reviews.

As for the price reduction, go online and go to buy a policy from VGS and that's your discount! The seller will likely say that it is free, of course, and that the sale price won't change in which case you walk away. If they were to behave that unscrupulously, would you really want to buy a car from them only to find something major wrong a few weeks later?
