Hi All,

I have a W209 270 CDI Manual and the leather has worn through on the gear knob (only lasted 144k miles tut!). Anyway, I have replaced my cracked steering wheel with a new old stock OEM one but I can't find the same thing for the gear knob. I absolutely Detest all of the Halfords type rubbish out there and just want a new one without the £150+ price tag.

Have any of you replaced yours for similar reasons or have you tried these replacement gaitor kits at all with any success.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts.

Here is the type of thing I am talking about: MERCEDES CLK W209 MANUAL 02-09 GEAR GAITER + GEAR KNOB COVER BLACK LEATHER | eBay

Thought I'd put an update on for this. I bought one of these:
black stitch MERCEDES CLK W209 GEAR KNOB GAITER ONLY 2002-2009 MANUAL | eBay but it was for a W208 style gear knob. Got on to the seller who were absolutely brilliant, took my old one, used it as a template and made me a new one (whilst I used a secondhand Gear Knob that I bought from EDZ649 (did the job perfectly)).

Got the gaiter yesterday and fitted it. Had to trim the seams up a bit as it is a very tight fit in the grooves for the stitching. I am VERY pleased with the outcome:

Looks like the head of a snake but a lovely job.

Thank you, I should mention that the cost of this was only about £25 if anyone is considering doing theirs.
