Residual Heat = retrofit?

It doesnt just run the fan at a slow speed but also the coolant is circulated by an electric pump, taking residual heat from the engine block and radiator.

so quite a bit to it then?

says not standard in some countries although it is standard on her slk

If they were the same I would not have listed them individually.

The engine block heater system and REST are both included in the stationary heater system although the parts are different.

The stationary heater (option 228) is a Webasto Thermo Top. I have never seen the block heater available on its own as by definition it works as a stationary heater. Do you know the option code for it so I can look it up ?

REST is a great feature. I use it if parked up and doing some paperwork or waiting for someone.

I noticed it was missing from the new C-class I was driving recently.

REST also brings in a little recirc pump (mine siezed up) , and operates a couple of solenoids on the water circuite.

I too would be interested on retrofit possibility and cost of aux heater on W215. Bloody cold in the car first thing in the mornings. I understand there are timing options that you can set to warm the car interior to your requirements. Not an option on UK cars as i remember.

Theres no chance of it knackering the battery is there?
It depends on how long you operate the heater and what fan speed you selected. Obviously the higher the speed the higher the current draw. Say if everyday you let it run for 30 minutes and you only drive for 15 minutes it's gonna drain your battery eventually.

Jbo, what you can do exactly vary slightly on what car it is fitted but generally the heater can be operated via a timer which you can program for up to 3 different times/day.

For those interested in such a thing and whose car is already fitted with a boost heater (most 220Cdi for example) you can get a dedicated wiring kit that will turn your boost heater to a auxiliary heater.

No, it automatically stops after 30 minutes (I think) or if the battery voltage drops too low. So it won't drain the battery.

You can set how long it is going to run between 1-60 minutes.

Not REST you can't. It's a fixed time or battery voltage as jimmy says.
