So I thought I'd have the resonators deleted and an x pipe fitted...for more noise.

Anyway drive over the exhaust place's pit, and go under the car. There are no resonators, but the two sides come together like an X pipe.

What to do now?

The guy suggested I'd reduce power and increase fuel consumption if I did cut anything out.

Has the car had previous exhaust work done to it then?

I thought they had 2 cats per side, then a resonator (which seems to have been replaced by your X pipe) and finishing in two back boxes, though I'm not familiar with the set up on your model. You would certainly gain more noise by removing/gutting the secondary cats, though I'd tend to be swayed by your exhaust person's advice.

I'm not familiar with any tuners over on your side of the water though, if you know of a good one, they would be in the best position to advise, maybe with a bit of data logging before a suitable yet subtle remap.

Just my opinion and how I'd be tackling it. :)

Can you gut the rear cats? I did this on my C55. Cut open the cats with a disc cutter then scoop out the innards & weld back up the cats. Looks stock, sounds good.

It is not very loud but is also not boomy on the motorway. I want it to pop on the overrun.
