There are a couple of threads in this forum about replacing failed seat heater pads - it seems fairly straightforward, but time consuming. I can't find anything though about adding heater pads to an original non-heated seat. Has anyone done this ? Can it be done ? If so I'd like to add seat heating to my '03 SLK230K which currently sports non-heated, electrically adjustable, leather seats.

Assuming it is possible, apart from the heater pads themselves, what else is needed ? Are there any other physical differences between heated and non-heated seats ? Is the wiring fitted, or is another piece or pieces of the loom needed ? Can the switches be added to the existing centre console, or does that need to be replaced as well ? Are any additional fuses, relays, timers etc needed ?

Does anyone have a parts manual for these cars ?

I have done it to an A-class using A-class parts and now I will do it to a C-Class 2002 using C-class 1999 heat pads - which is what I think you will be needing. You will need all the parts for seat heating plus a new trim panel.

As far as I can tell you will need the part number for leather trim. Unless you want a nose bleed and a change of actual leathers (expensive).

Wanting to do it to my W203

Havn't taken this any further yet. From following these threads, it's not as easy as I thought, especially the electrics.
What I really need is a parts manual showing a fully explained, exploded view - somebody out there must have one. Isn't the official MB one on a CD ?
I'm thinking the easiest way forward might be to take the seats from a wrecked slk being dismantled, and as well take all the associated electrics that don't seem to be present on mine.
If/when I make further progress, I'll take a few pics and post them here.
Watch this space.

Geoff, I've jst bought the MD Disks off ebay they are a little confusing but do show break downs of various components I bought them for £20 but if you send me your address I'll make you a copy for free and in return once you've figured out what to do very very slowly try and talk me through it.

Cabling and pad insertion - cable connectors on the end of the wiring lead need to be replaced with those suitable for the task. Depending on the cut and style of seat then it is possible to consider W202 heat pads.

That's a very fair offer Xixal - thanks. It might be a while before I keep my end of the bargain though.

I'm not keen on publishing my snail mail address on this or any other forum, but e mail me and I'll e mail the address back.

E mail address is [email protected]
