Has anyone else heard of this and whether Mercedes have something similar?
the ECU logs all revs
these range from 1 to 6
you can ask for the over revs print out.
Porsche UK cannot now sell a OPC car with 2 years warranty with over revs in 4 or above.
4 means you have buzzed the engine and while this might be ok if only done 1 or 2 times NO warranty on the engine unless the over revs in range 4 was over 6 months ago.
Range 5 and 6 means you have killed it
Range 3 means you have hit the limiter which is not an issue and in sports mode with PDK you will prob get range 3 clicks on your counter, or if it's been thrashed on track alot.
NEVER buy a used Porsche with out a rev range check, as all 3rd party dealers now check this you will never trade it in any where if you have range 5 and maybe even if you have any in range 4.
1-3 can be achieved by bumping into the rev limiter (more likely if a car is driven in Sport Chrono Sport Mode). Ignition cycles here are no cause for concern. The Cayman engine is considered mechanically safe beyond 7,900 RPMs, but revving beyond this range is going to result in extra ordinary wear and stress
1 7,300 - 7,499 RPM Ranges .
2 7,500 - 7,699 RPM
3 7,700 - 7,899 RPM
4 7,900 - 8,399 RPM
5 8,400 - 9,499 RPM
6 9,500 - 11,000 RPM If the engine hit this range, it exploded. There is no way this thing is still running.
