Problem with reversing lights on 2001 CLK 230.

Turn engine over and no malfunctions, but put into reverse and it immediately states bulb malfunction.
Neither of the reversing lights work, but bulbs ok as is the fuse.

Searched this forum and reckon it is the reversing switch on the auto gearbox, either breaking down or requires cleaning. Before I try to have a look at it I wanted to know where this switch is, and how do you get to it?

Come on guys somebody must know where the switch on the gearbox is located and where best to locate it?

It's been a few years since I fixed mine. From memory, remove the panel over the centre console to get access to the shifter mechanism. This unbolts easily and you will have to disconnect the other end of it from the linkage rod. Once you get the whole unit out, you'll see a black plastic box slightly bigger than a cigarette packet. This has the reversing light switch. A dealer will sell you a replacement for 70ish quid but I got a replacement from a scrapper. The one in my 202 had a 210 part number so you could probably get the correct part from anything with a 722.6 box.
