Road angel Plus

I'm interested in a RoadAngel plus. the price has come down to £150 - £200 as its been superceded by the new Professional model and does what I want ( also like the look better on my dash)

I spoke to my local dealer ( MB Oxford) who are a Road Angel supplier and they tell be I also need an external arial as my R230 SL has a Uv screen.

Has anyone used this product, and can confirm or deny my dealers opinion?

I can try my Mavnan in the SL and see if it works on the dash

Just though the SL AMG at the meet had one on the dash, so no problem.

If your screen is "metalised" i.e. heat reflective, then yes, you will need an external aerial.

As I said the SL65 had one on top of the dash working, so did merlin 13 at a meet last year, 230 screens do have embedded wires in them

Not doubting you for one minute Malcolm....

What is the function of the embeded wires?

This is not the same as a metalised heat reflective screen.

So the GPS aerial is in the front screen. I will still pop my Navman in and try it when I pick up the V70R thats just past the MOT for 9 years running and never failed or had anything done to it, and at 75k miles

I am going to the Road Angel support Center at Silverstone in a few days time ( ie when it stops raining!) with an offer to try out all their models in the car (Road angel hardware....not girls!) to check out this aspect

More like his dealer was trying it on to get that bit extra on the sale of the unit.

Shouln't you be able to see a rectangle on a UV screen where they don't put the film? (normally by the mirror)
You can see this on my new van and it's just big enough for my Dart-tag.

Yes thank you a nice drive out (10ft) but I have to put it back again as we have un house trained seagulls around here

I have never ever heard of this or ever seen any option for this, not even on the new ones, as earlier, the Comand antenna is built into the front screen

Yes, usually in the black area behind the RVM. I know the S class has reflective windows and has external aerials.

Mine has Heat Reflective Glass, so i suppose that's why the small 'Shark's Fin' aerial is on the external surface of the rear screen?

I have never seen that option in either all of the sales books or WIS heated steering wheels yes

Could this be something different to what I am understanding as heated windshield i.e. heating wires in the glasss like the Ford system?
