Car
No longer a Benz...
Just had a call from my X Wife to say that she has rolled her Golf GTI after being rammed by another driver. She had to be cut out and thank god that my kids were not in the car!! She was taken to hospital as she has burns from the seatbelt and whiplash/bruising etc to her entire body...
The other driver has admited responsibility at the scene to both her and the police.. The police are coming to see her tomorrow..
I have a few questions..... And I feel totally helpless as i'm in the USA right now and can do nothing.......

1) Can she transfer her plate even though the car is written off?
2) Can she claim for a hire car of similar quality/size on the other parties insurance?
3) Injury damage..... how does this work?

Any other help guys.......

Cheers

G

Bad news, at least there shouldn't be any disputing fault.

There's no reason I know off stopping the plate being transferred. She should get a similar car quite easily. I could of got a Mercedes when my 190 was hit but I'd off had to wait longer so I took a Vectra.

Can't help with injury claims though.

The plate still can be transfered. No problem.

As the injury claim goes, in the past I have had to claim and I got my solicitors to sort it all for me. They are much more effieient than these "claim for anything lawyers"

They will be able to advise the best action.

If there is anything I can do.....

I am glad she is ok too.

Get the plate transfer on the go tomorrow ( before the car is officially written off ;) ) ..

I did this with my old CLK and there were no problems , if it is declared a write off before she begins proceedings it can hold things up ...

Glad to hear she isn't seriously hurt .

mate, dont start worrying abt the plate just yet! wishing her a speedy recovery!

Glad to hear she's relatively well.

A colleague had a car stolen, and as such a total loss. He had huge difficulties recovering his plate - it took years rather than months.

From the other posts here, it doesn't seem to be the same in the case of a total loss due to an accident though.

I hope all is resolved soon, and your ex is feeling fit and well even sooner.

as with others, try and start tranferring the plate ASAP before the insurers write it off.

if non fault you could go via the TP insurers and ask them for a car similar to what you had. not sure what hire car would be for a golf GTI (another non-GTI golf i guess but i took this route when i had an accident in my 7 series (TP at fault) and the other insurer paid for a W211 E class hire car. Should have been an S class though ;) but still better than the Corsa/Kia that i may of ended up with otherwise. Tell them that you'd like a similar car.

no idea on the injury side of things

Glad to hear wife is reasonably OK.

Is this not good enough reason to fly home to take care of the family?

Thats the first thing I said Spike.... She doesnt want that....

By the rules of Woman World, you're not supposed to discuss or even mention it - you're meant to be the quiet hero and just do it :thumb:

I'd get home asap. Is your wife's wellbeing not worth more than whatever business you are doing in The US?

Greg, these people were excellent, I have used them twice before and they recovered all my costs as well. They also arranged a like for like replacement vehicle.

Hope your 'X' wife has a speedy recovery!

Sorry to hear the news...

...although I had to snort in a quick fit of laughter when you stated (in this order):

1. Ex involved in horrendous car crash.
2. How do you transfer a private reg off a wreck?

You've got your priorities right!!!

Thanks guys.... Shes recovering at home now, badly bruised and with seat belt burns etc... Her insurance have appointed a solicitor who is going for everything... she told me earlier that a witness who came round today said she went corner to corner roll 3 times... Just glad she's ok as she gave me 2 wonderful kids....
