Found rust on my arches this weekend, will take pics and post up. Looks like another trip to my local dealers to kick up a fuss :(

Here you go....

Take one well looked after low mileage '99 C43

Add a load of shoddy workmanship and this is what you get

Will be going down to the stealers on Saturday, lets see what they have to say for themselves

Nope, just the usual poor MB workmanship :(

All four are affected but the one in the pic is the worst. The other three are bubbling but no rust has broken through yet.

ick, brilliant workmanship :( Is yours covered by the Mobilo scheme?

Yup, fully stamped up MB service book also, last service 6 months ago. I am going to make print outs from the forum and so hopefully they will have little room to wriggle out of it.

found my mobilo-life booklet, will scan it when i get back to manchester and post it up for others for future reference

Mine is starting to look like that, except mine is 10 years old...

Good luck

Good luck

so is mine but it's 16 years old :)

Good luck Mambo but my guess is that they'll try and wriggle out saying that the root cause was stone/road salt damage.

If they do I will go there when it's really busy and shout and scream. There is no way that I am going to let them tell me its acceptable for a 6 year old car to rust like that. I have driven some real sh*t cars in my time, but non have them have rusted like this

My brothers V-reg CLK looked exactly the same as yours.

He took it to Robinson's Mercedes who took about 10-15 photos and told him they would get back to him.

Of course they didnt, after a few calls & weeks later they aggreed to fix all the rust for free.

After 1 week of being in the garage, he recived a call to say that they had ordered a set of pre-facelift wings by mistake & would take them another week to fix.

If they dont play ball, simply hire a van (complete with a large banner with your story painted on the side) & call local paper and block there dealership.

I was talking to a Technician at Stealer that I now use who is on very good terms with me and we usuaklly meetup for drinks on a Fri eve. He was telling me that they have a customer who now uses them BUT because another previous Stealer messed him about and failed to fix faults/problems with the new car they ended up having a BIG row. The cus then drove the car through the showroom front glass and told the Stealer to stick their car - bit of a nutter hey in my opinion to have driven his own car through showroom glass front - if it was me I would have driven the Stealer's coutesy car/demo car into the showroom with their insurance...

Just some ideas Mambo... ;)

I know a guy (with considerably more money than sense) who after a protracted row with Land Rover over warranty claims on a complete dog of a discovery finally "got even"

He hired a driver to tow the car on a trailer backwards and forwards past the the dealership all day with a huge sign on it's roof explaining exactly what the car was a pile of whilst he handed out entirely factual leaflets of all his problems to everybody who looked like they were going towards the dealers :)

All entirely legal (back then anyway) and eventually got his money refunded

Hi Mambo,
Hopefully you will take heart from this slight hiccup and note that the dealer is actually replacing the rusty part and NOT carrying out a shoddy bodge job. I will keep repeating myself.

I would NOT be happy with a chewing gum type filler repair. Fitting new parts where possible is a must. Clearly there will be locations where this might be difficult or indeed impossible to actually acheive.

The friendly, polite approach will pay dividends every time. To get all official and demanding will only put peoples backs up. I am sure you will be the former and good luck with the visit.

Whilst I agree with you here John, it isn't the dealers that are holding out on corrosion claims, it's MB warranty dept.
The cost af all the claims would send MB bust so they "rationalise" the claims as much as possible.
The poor dealer gets the brunt of the anger from the customer when it really isn't their fault.

The dealer would much rather replace panels than blast and paint them.

100% agree,
but hopefully we can keep trying to keep the dealers on the side of the customers. ;)
