S class 320 cdi running cool

Any ideas why my s class take ages for temp gage to go up . Just sits above 40 when stuck in traffic it will rise up

Probably the thermostat, particularly if the design is similar to my 270CDI. Someone who knows the engine will be along shortly no doubt. I take it the radiator cooling fan isn't on all the time?

Needs a new engine thermostat, comes complete with housing easy job, merc price about £60 for part
