S CLASS W220 rear ciggie lighters

Just in case anyone makes the same stupid mistake as me


When you disable the rear electric windows from the front controls, (so as kids cant open them) this also disables the rear ciggie lighters
I don't smoke and don't no many who do these days, but I use these "power points" to inflate the rear tyres. So when the tyre inflator didnt work in either of them and it was highly unlikely both of the ciggie lighter fuses were blown, I assumed the tyre inflator was broken
I then bought a new tyre inflator This didn't work either, and both fuses were ok

Hey Presto....enable rear windows to work, and the ciggie lighters work too........:bannana:

Anyone want to buy a new tyre pump?? !!!

This must be intentional as there rear door control unit now needs to be able to switch that cigarette light power, otherwise it could have been driven from the input wire directly.

I guess MB did not think of bad behaving kids who should not smoke (I consider the rear window switch off feature being intended for kids' safety).
Or did they feel that smoking with closed rear windows would be equally undesirable?

Seriously of course small kids could use the hot cigarette lighter, intentionally or accidentally. I should check how this is done on the W221, although I don't have the smoker package. The power plugs are at the centre, I would assume they work irrespectively of the rear window setting, but better to check.

It actually says the ciggie lighters are disabled in the "Manual", but we don't need a "Manual" do we............

What do MB expect, it's about 400 pages as I remember before I tossed it in the drawer 3 years ago.....

Well this is strange...

Have a problem with my W221, no rear cigarette lighters working, or boot mounted aux power skt. Checked fuses and all ok mistified, did a search and found this post but thought no as my rear windows are not disabled but just to make sure went to check . No , indicator on door was not on so checked the rear windows were opening and as soon as I pressed to open the window the cigarette lighter came live again ( had an ext lead in it with a light indicator ) checked boot skt and that is now live too ! Worth noting in case anyone with W221 loses power there !
