S or W setting

Hi Peeps. Was just wondering what the best setting for better fuel consumption on my c280 w202 auto would be either S or W setting. Cheers Tony.

Few if any notice a difference. Supposedly w is better...but I stay in S unless it's icey when starting off.

I drive w when I've studded(spike) wither tyres fitted (I want save my studs), s with summer tyres (better kick down effect)

Just leave it in S unless you need W setting for slippery conditions.

Your right foot will give you far more control of your mpg than any gearbox setting

When I bought the 320 I played about with the w&s in the hope of ecking a few extra miles from a gallon but noticed very little if any difference , if anything it wa somewhat too sluggish in w when moving off.

Thanks chappies and yes i do have a very very gentle right foot. Never use kick down so expecting mpg not too bad on my new steed. Cheers.

W setting changes gears at lower revs, so is better for mpg.

It's a more relaxing drive.

Trouble is most drivers get caught up in the cut and thrust of other traffic
and drive like a racing driver.

If you can resist that, you will get better mpg in W.

I cannot remember when I had mine in S last time.

It is easy to resist racing from one traffic light to the next (just because the car in front does) if you plan your strategy in advance.

You will get to your destination just as quick.
