Just brought the S124 E280 back to the UK. 1,000 miles in approx 20 hours.
However after stopping for fuel before leaving Italy it was misfiring and lumpy idle. Not great in the alps with 700 miles to go. However after about 10 miles it righted itself. It felt just as if a switch had been flicked and you could sense it through the pedal and engine note. Ran perfectly from then on. It has done this twice before about 3 months ago and cured itself just as quickly. I have receipts for a wiring loom and coil packs in the last 2 years - genuine dealer fitted. Dont know about the extender things but would I be right to think a main dealer would have changed them? Local agent in Italy suggested ECU but I hope not.
Sorry this is so long but now the questions.
Does the ECU sound possible?
Would STAR tell me or preferably an expert.
Will I be doing further damage using it as it is? Probably done 2000 miles since first time it missed.
What else? Could the new loom/coil packs be gone already and would it be so off/on in nature - just like switching a light on/off.
Many thanks for your thoughts/advice.
Nigel

Just a quick update. Problem located to a faulty spark plug cap. Could have been a lot worse.
