Are these known troublesome items , or am I just unlucky ?
The wiper worked when I first got the car , although the washer didn't until I reconnected the pipe behind the osr light unit .
After a short while of washer/wiper operation, the wiper became intermittent in its operation, then ceased working altogether . I also noticed a few times that the trim panel inside the tailgate was wet.
Yesterday was the first dry day I have had the chance to look at it .
On removing the trim panel , the first thing that was obvious was the trail of rusty coloured residue from just behind the spindle all down the inside of the trim panel - looks like it had been leaking a while .
The right angle connector where the water hose connects to the spindle also was very wet .
On checking the electrical connector , all seemed fine , and with the switch turned on a relay inside the motor unit could be heard to tick . It appeared that power was reaching the motor unit OK .
On tapping the motor , it was persuaded to move erratically , with repeated tapping it started working more reliably then eventually seemed good as new .
Unfortunately , this morning it is back to not working .
I expect the motor has suffered from the ingress of water due to the leaking joint . I will remove it from the car and strip it down to see if it can be cleaned up ; hopefully blowing out with compressed air then some electrical contact cleaner will do the trick , otherwise I will have to replace the unit .
I will also need to fix the water leak - is this a common problem , and is there a seal or a washer that needs to be replaced ?
Just wondering if anyone has suffered this before and how they got on ?
Also wondering if the motor assembly is common to any other models ? My motor has a 203 part no on it , but I know of at least one S210 and several A Classes in breakers nearby if any of them might use the same motor ?
