S211 CarPlay Options?

Evening All,

Just wondered what the best regarded options are for getting CarPlay into a W/S211? I’ve seen the replacement units that look similar to the stock head unit but will these live up to expectations?

Realistically I’m looking for something that can give me music streaming and Google Maps.

Thanks all!

I'm having trouble with my Audio 20 unit (also in a W211) and am considering fitting an aftermarket Pioneer unit.
I think I can use a Connects 2 kit as per the attached. I was going to use this along with a double din Pioneer, like this 230 unit, or the 160 unit.
Can anyone advise if this is feasible? Does anyone foresee any problems?

If I do go this way, do I leave the phone cradle in the centre console or could it then be removed?
Also would I still be able to use the Mercedes installed microphone or would I need to take it out and run the Pioneer one in its place?
I'll also have to install a DAB aerial into the car too, I think.
I believe I have NTG2.5 in my car.

Any advice and experience greatly appreciated.

This is a job for.... @Londonscottish, who has been down this path recently for his S212

Others will highlight

But really, the best way to research this is to use the Search box (top right hand corner of this screen)

which will lead to all kinds of discussion of the different options, from dealer fit to self-install.

Specifically answering two of your questions, the phone cradle would normally be removed, and

as regards DAB radio: do you really need DAB Radio in this era of Internet Radio, Podcasts, music streaming?

Probably not, no. But as it is on the head unit, it's probably not that difficult to fit and install the aerial and have it?
For sure it’s not difficult to fit.

My question is why does anyone listen to DAB any more when all the stations stream on your phone, and when downloaded programmes and podcasts are so much better? The tech has moved on.

I'm pretty sure the IA system won't work with the version of COMAND in a 211.

I'm a little confused - what is Comand? I looked up my VIN decoder and I have the following option codes...

354
Inv. (MBUX multimedia system High (Gen 20X))
386
Universal telephony package
523
Audio 20 CD

I then see people refer to a Comand "wheel" which makes me think it's a little like the BMW iDrive system??

Best to take a pic of your unit and post on here. Can be tricky to identify which system you have

“Cockpit Management and Data System”

Several different generations of functionality and wiring loom capability.
