The car is an S211 in Elegance interior trim - beige full leather, polished wood; rather gentlemen's club, and I like that a lot. The S211 looks good in Brilliant Silver, too. The wheels were another matter...

The car was on OE MB 17" 'Yilduz' wheels. I've never seen them on anything but Elegance trim 211s before, and I've never liked them; I don't care for 'fussy' wheels anyway, and the Yilduz are both very fussy, and look positively antiquated, harking back to the MB wheels of the seventies and eighties - Mexican Hats, anybody? Far too retro even for me; maybe they were intended to make the car appeal to old buffers who twenty years ago remembered the good old days twenty years before that...

I'm rather pleased with the new wheels (off a 2015 GLC); they freshen the whole look of the car. Gentlemen, what think you?

Defiantly an improvement. The new rear wheel looks a bit odd, not central, but suspect that the car hasn’t settled after being raised.. It fills the front arch just nicely.

I prefer the old wheels, just looks more OE and isn't trying to hard in my opinion. Which I suppose is what an E500 is set out to do. But it's your car and that's what counts.

I have non OE wheels on my E63 and most seem to not like. But I do. I do plan on having my OE wheels refurbished at some point.

I just think your E500 looks more subtle with the OE wheels.

Look great Dennis, much better. I agree regarding the old alloys - look very boring indeed!

😂

That's given me a good laugh. Nearly splurted my warm lemonade I'm drinking over the keyboard.

I like them and when put next to the old ones - I like them even more!

Old wheels are minging, you did well with the new ones looks far better. I fancy an upgrade on my S211 but the standard 16 are in such mint condition may as well leave as is and get the sport estate come upgrade time.

I looked at an Elegance before buying my Avantgard the Mrs said ugh all that wood it looks like an old mans car, i'm 54 so better get a baseball hat on backwards and a Corsa :D:D:D

It's funny because the wood trim I think suits the S/W211 so much. Each to there own I suppose.

I'm not a fan of these carbon fibre trim specs. Interior or exterior

No doubt the OP will put these awful wheels up for sale asap to get rid of them out of his sight :dk:

I prefer the new ones but your car obviously prefers the old ones as it seems to have pissed itself in protest

OP, when are you removing the resonator to go with the newer sportier look

No, that's a little overnight rain, but it is protesting; the Airmatic's playing up... (Possibly because I changed the left rear shocker at the same time, and that corner has been up and down like a whore's drawers on the jack as part of the process).

A set of AMG IIIs would look even better - I had them on my last silver S211 - but these are much sturdier, and with the state of Britain's roads nowadays I think they might be a better bet.

Much, much better, just shows how a different set of alloys can totally transform a car, nice one!
:) 👍

Let's hope it's not too expensive, you have spent enough lately :)

I bought a set of w211 AMG 3s once of eBay and they must have had 30 weights on them. Claimed my money back off PayPal. The seller ended up telling me to bin them as couldn't be ****d to pay the return postage !!!!

As I said to my niece, about her new facelift: "that looks great !"

What matters is the eye of the owner.

I had Yilduz on my first E500, and I was happy with them as being "original." Had I swopped them, I would have only swopped them for the period wheels on the Avantgarde. (We know the ones).

The SUV wheels look far more modern, but it would still be nagging me that they aren't the original. I'd have the same issue with replacing the comand unit, or the central console, or tinting the windows.

But then I'm the same with Jaguars. I always prefer the original wheels, while the world and his dog puts E Types on wire wheels (a silly idea for a 150mph 1960's car ), or "more modern" wheels, rather than the originals.
