S211 - Changed the Wheels - Better?

But then I'm the same with Jaguars. I always prefer the original wheels, while the world and his dog puts E Types on wire wheels (a silly idea for a 150mph 1960's car ), or "more modern" wheels, rather than the originals.

To be fair you could fit the wheels @E55BOF has removed and fit them to that E-Type and it’d still look gorgeous..!

Apart from the wheels...

It's funny because the wood trim I think suits the S/W211 so much. Each to there own I suppose.

I'm not a fan of these carbon fibre trim specs. Interior or exterior

I agree, I'm with you on this one, suppose the wood reminds me of one of my favourite cars when growing up Triumphs, loved their wooden dash and makes the car feel more Gentlemans club special

Well, I like the the new look.
Here's set of period CLS wheels on my 211 back in 2007.

'The wheels on my current car are a little more elaborate,' confirmed a spokesman......:rolleyes:View attachment 100790

The Audi looks great, but if it had clean and simple five-spokes like the S211, it would look even better... I'm not a fan of 'turbine' wheels, despite the facts that my SLK has them; if it had Yilduz, I'd have changed them long since.

I'll admit I'd have loved a car with Rostyles long, long ago, but my taste has changed, and simple five-spokes are my preference now. Like most of us, I think the new wheels on the car are a great improvement over the dowdy old Yiiduz.

As I said to my niece, about her new facelift: "that looks great !" What matters is the eye of the owner.

I had Yilduz on my first E500, and I was happy with them as being "original." Had I swopped them, I would have only swopped them for the period wheels on the Avantgarde. (We know the ones).

The SUV wheels look far more modern, but it would still be nagging me that they aren't the original. I'd have the same issue with replacing the comand unit, or the central console, or tinting the windows.

I'm not too bothered about originality, so long as I'm happy with the look and functionality; I'll probably (when I get a round tuit...) replace the Comand head unit with a modern, much more capable item, simply because it has the features I want. It will have to look reasonably like the OE head unit, though, at least when it's switched off, so as not to look too incongruous. Something like this should fit the bill:

Don't get me started on Jaguar wheels!
The XJ220 I have use of is one of my old development cars on BBS wheels. Used only because we could get nothing else in the right size as the 'designed' wheels were still in manufacture at the time.

I actually prefer the ones they spent such a long time finalising, but others think the 'prototype' wheels are better. Just personal preference!

Don't get me started on modernising Jaguars, or any classic.

It bugs me when I see Jaguars remanufactured to "modern" standards, from paintwork to wiring. Can't stand these £150k E Types that look nothing like what came out of Browns Lane originally.

Let alone this wretched TR6 that Historics sold last month Here's the auction link.
Ref 55 1972 Triumph TR6 SB

It's impressive but it's just not what these cars were.

You mean it's not slow, unreliable, poor-handling and leaky any more...

Something much more modern would be a huge improvement in almost every way, though it wouldn't be a Triumph, and I'd certainly not spend that sort of money on an old car like that, but judging by how much it fetched at auction, there's a market for it. People pay that sort of money for Ford Escorts too...

The new ones are much better looking . Car looks five years youger not to mention the fabulous cleaning benefits (if you are an OCD wheel cleaner like myself that is)

Decided reading his thread that liking my wood trim in my SLK is definitely the real sign that I am a genuine old fogey. But it still moves rather swiftly if I floor the throttle 😬

Polished wood and full leather, preferably beige; the gentleman's club ambiance - in a word, classy...

Absolutely agree :) my cream leather with wood trim makes the interior a much nicer place to be than the normal black and aluminium on most of the SLK's I have seen. The cabin ( small I accept ) feels bigger as well as more luxurious.
However I do recognise that it's a fashion that is not to everyone's taste

Funnily enough, I am a cigar smoker...

I’m 43. My CLK has beige leather and black ash trim. Love it and searched hard to find it! Looks nice with chromite black paint (midnight blue black). Buy what you like I think. Doesn’t matter what others think 😀
