E320 CDI Avantgarde auto estate 2005 (S211). No trouble locking when I purchased the car in November.

The tailgate became intermittently difficult to lock. Motor noise was audible, but sometimes the lock didn't engage. On one or two occasions, the lock engaged but there remained a warning light at the dashboard. After one successful lock (without a warning light) in late 2022, I chose to not open it again until warmer weather put me in the mood to take a look. Now, around three months later, it never locks.

Side note: one of the two tailgate struts no longer pushes the gate up, I guess that (as a result) the gate had inadvertently slammed down more often than it should, for a previous owner.

… 2005 S211 320 Cdi Estate: … The number of the original part in the car is:

A2117400036 (shown in the photo)

This seems to have been replaced by:

A2117400535 (though I have also seen reference to A2117400635)

In all such photos: at the end of the flexible yellow tube, I see the end of a cable with silver nodule.

When I look at mine, photographed below, I can't see where that end of a cable might run. I mean, unlike the end of the red tube, I can't see any mechanics that might push or pull something at the end of the yellow tube.

Am I overlooking something?
