At last success! Ive had an irritating rattle in the back of my S212 for ages that's been driving me nuts. It sounded like the rear nearside. I tried all sorts - padding the crate thing and plastic tray under the rear floor cover, adding padding to the removeable side panels etc. I thought i'd nailed it when i found the cable release for the rear hatch (assume that's what it is anyway) was touching the bodywork behind the fabric cover (behind the left side removeable panel). But still it persisted.
But then i removed the rear bench seat and saw that the nearside metal hook at the back seemed to have some impact marks from where the seat attaches to it - a metal wire fits into the hook, so metal on metal. I padded this out with some high density foam and did the same to the other side for good measure. Lo and behold the rattle has gone!
I should have realised earlier but it only recently occurred to me that i don't hear the rattle with people sitting in the back. Bliss!
