S320 CDI Engine & Tranmission Mounts

had some shuddering sensations when driving - changed auto transmission fluid, it was nearly black, a bit "burnt", and like me a little thick!! flushed gearbox and torque converter - dont think it had ever been changed but tick in the service box!! - gear changes now smooth as silk - but still have "take up" problems when putting the power down - gearbox mounts dont sound right, engine mounts do, but will change them all out

Yes, thought so
Had the same problem on my s320 cdi too but oil change did sort that issue. Still my mechanic said oil was so dirty that will need to change it again in 2-3K as it is literally impossible to do clean change if you know what I mean. Sold the car in the end so didn't have to do it. Having a Chrysler 300c with the same gear box as w220 noticed similar shudder from time to time.
How many miles it has done?
Also if you want to change the mounts regardless I would go for dealership, they will fit as a glove and it is a genuine part too.

Borys,
will be changing my atf in another 5 or 10k - its only done 65k now, got it at 55k, its genuine mileage, but i do about 600 miles a week commuting every day. probably the person b4 me noticed it and got away with shoving a tube of "Dr Tranny" in it for a few quid. I have a good Indie so we'll change the mounts ok. i just like checking the prices of everything!!! Dont trust the dealers - mine had full dealer history - all the boxes were ticked!!

What I mean is using Mercedes genuine parts is a good practise. There is always a better quality material used, etc. For example full kit to change the gear box oil is around 130 quid from Mercedes (7 ltr of oil, filter, gasket, electrical plug and red clip).
Once I have used Mobil oil for the box and it died in 2K, that was a recommendation from a shop (don't go to Mercedes, too expensive thay are using mobil and you only pay for star sign),after they didn't want to talk to me, said it was my mechanic fault.
I would change oil again to see if it helps, will defo not do anything bad to the car. My mech charges 30 quid to change the oil - not that expensive in the end all in.
For yours it is a very low mileage, mine had 120K oil never changed and it started to had those symptoms.
Since using genuine parts never had a problem again.

for what its worth the exterior was immaculate when i bought it, the interior was totally umarked and the seats had virtually no signs of wear my indie stuck it on star and checked the mileage in the ecu with that on the clock - both were the same - what matters with the fluids is they meet merc specs and are on the aproval list - i dont buy off fleabay as there are loads of fake oil on there as some fully synthetic oils are so expensive it is worth the criminal fraternity's while to set up production lines faking the more expensive makes and filling the "original containers" with oil from el cheapo - i get my fluids from opie oils

If you are sure about fluids you are using - perfect.
Check the oil, see its colour if clean, mounts way to go then.
It is just unusual for that mileage for them to worn out, it is the s class in the end of the day.
Hope you didn't took my comments the wrong way, please don't was trying to get to bottom of your case as had similar problem on mine
