S320 CDI W221 Oil leak 2008

Thanks for reply. I will remove belt and see what happens, hopefully it's not the big end.., I was under the car looking for an oil leak and I had the engine running, couldn't hear the noise from the bottom only from top

You can remove the belt and run it.

It could be worn big end bearings. They do suffer. They make a light tap noise when they are worn.

If it was worn big end bearings, what are my options? replacement 2nd hand engine or overhaul? which do you think would be less expensive?

Was driving the car today for about 20mins, then I parked the car in the driveway with engine running and the noise was gone, tipped the accelerator and let it idle again and noise came back then went. Beginning to think it not a bearing issue.

Engine MGMT light is on so hopefully some senor is causing an issue and sometimes the coil light stays on for a bit after starting (checked glow plugs and there ok)

I'll have to get the light checked but since its Christmas nowhere is open until next week.

Sound coming from engine is hard to describe, sounds like a low humming sound and you can only hear it every revolution, its not constant.

Thanks and happy christmas

See what is causing the light first and go from there.

If its a hum noise I doubt a bearing issue.

Yea hopefully not, doesn't sound like it. I'll get codes checked next week and report back,

Thanks

Hi, there is a humming or low popping noise coming from the engine when it idles, sounds like its coming for the left hand side of the engine but its hard to tell.

I am thinking it could be the water pump?

Can I remove the drive belt and start the engine to see if the noise is gone or will this cause problems with the altanator?.

Any any other ideas what it could be?

Thanks
C

Hi
2008 S Class
Just a quick question about this noise, I was having some work done on the car and they had to remove the rear shock. When I went to collect the car the rear end was sitting on the ground and the front end was ok.

It looked like there was no air getting to the shocks in the rear, is it a seperate supply for each shock??

I asked before about humming noise coming from the engine ^^^ would it be possible that this noise is the compressor constantly labouring trying to supply the rear shocks??(when the compressor is running is it loud???)

I've pressed the raise car button but nothing happens, the rear end is on the ground but no error message saying car is too low?

The engine MGMT light is on but I cant get the codes read because car keeps powering off when trying to read (electrical fault)

I want to bring it to mercedes but can drive it because rear end is on the ground

any ideas?

Thanks

Get it recovered. Do you have any breakdown cover?

I expect the pump has worn out causing your suspension issue. Or you have a leak

Before car went into garage, the LHS on the rear was ok but the RHS was rubbing (shock was low and weld sheared on subframe, got a knock)

The front seems fine, so cant figure out why the rear is low, cant hear any leaks, or errors

What pressure is supplied to each shock do you know? I think if i get two space saver wheels i'll be able to drive it.

Thanks

Hi just an update on this, might help someone out. the sensor in the rear which detects ride height was not functioning correctly. The rear subframe was removed so when it was put back in the sensor was not set up correctly?

The car would not raise when the button was pressed because the sensor, which is like a mini shock absorber was not sensing the car was low.

Doubt it will be turbo to block gasket it's always the oil separator and orange seal. At work we replace bothe separator and seal cus if u don't you will need the m55 inlet port shut off motor very soon. That's the black plastic motor just bellow your turbo thats covered in oil lol. You will always have oil in the lines but with new seal and separator shouldn't be leaking the pipes anymore. Looking at your turbo you need to ask for the seal WITH ridge which I'm afraid to say is the more expensive of the two. I'd say 99% chance all of the oil is from out the hose as it's all localised to bellow starter and on base of bell housing.

Can someone explain to me why an oil leak at the turbo intake hose (top of the engine), results in oil appearing around the starter?

Hi Charlie,

Can you please tell me where from you got the oil separator?

Thank you

Hi,

Any part I replaced on the car I used original Mercedes parts.

I got the oil separator from the dealers, cost about €16 and the orange inlet turbo seal cost about €15 or €20 can't remember.

Just go to the dealers and hav your registration number or chassis number and they will have or order the part for you.
