I was just driving my s320 cdi (02 plate) and I noticed that the gear changes seemed a bit lumpy and abrupt. After a while it seemed to sort itself out. 5 mins later I came to a speed bump and as the front wheels went over the bump I began to. apply some gas and realised the car had no power... The engine was just revving up but there wasn't enough power to get the car over the speed bump. Luckily I was on a slight incline and was able to let the car roll back. I gave it loads of gas and the car just about got over the bump but was only moving at about 3-5 mph tops. I got the car to the side and I switched it off and back on to find that it had regained power and was working fine.

we've had the car since new and its never had any problems it's got just over 58k. I was just wondering if anybody knew what went wrong and if you've ever had this happen to you.
I dont wasn't to be driving down the motorway one day for this to happen again while im in the fast lane.
Thanks
Raz

first thing to do is check atf level

Thanks for the reply Sorry to be a pain. What is atf and how do I check it? Or is it best just to take the car to get it checked out by merc?

Automatic transmission fluid. Most newer transmissions doesn't have dipsticks, so level can only be checked with special equipment.

Thanks. I think I'll just book it in to Mercedes. It's due for a service anyway. Cheers

Thanks. i'll check them out...they're actually very close to where i live but i usually take my car to the min dealer.

I had this in my old car. Losing power, needed more and more revs to go, and eventually total power loss (luckily just as I parked up at home). Turned off, and tried again a while later, power back on line. In my case transmission died (lots of notes to fix...) hope it's better news for you!
