S420 Amg .......

Maybe there's an S280 AMG out there somewhere...

And if it was new 1 Aug 1997 it is not 1998 model year. New year is 1st October I heard once.

Its been on/off ebay for the last 6 months! The chap reckons its a rocket ship

Anyway, the 420 is not much quicker than the 320 but has poorer fuel economy. I would go for a 500 anyday of the week.

Perhaps it's something to do with the , and i quote ... ' Uprated V8 420 AMG Engine '

Looking at S's would love one at some point. I wont look lower than a 5ltr but then being on a 4.3 up is the only way to go lol. :D

As for that bloke and car

No offence if you happen to be a member

the exhaust looks a bit "barry-boy".

why dont people just list it properly, not making it out as something it isnt and they may get bids! its certainly a fine vehicle but why talk all the cr@p?

Have you looked at the other items he's flogging?

Hows about a rare collectors item - a handy unmolested Hyundai Pony pick-up with an 80% body.
They've admired it since 1994 and wave when it goes past!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

This is up there with those leather trousers!

Hate to disagree on this, but the registration used to change once a year on the ............. 1st August.

It looks a nice car and it merely has a lot of the usual sales person bull.

John

Registration has nothing to do with model year, model year is a factory detail.
MY is recorded as an option code such as 80* where * is the last digit of the year, in this case 807 would signify model year 1997 and 808 would signify 1998. These numbers can be found in the handbook :)

Model year differs from year to year and model to model :)

Hi Shude,
You are talking about technical Mercedes-Benz information whereas the seller is in my opinion giving sales talk for registration number plate year!

When this car was first registered the new 'years' registration started on August 1st. Your information might well be correct but it has nothing to do with the old yearly registration suffix??

I hope this post does not come across as being to 'anorak'. I am simply stating that wallingd's post was correct for modern vehicles but inaccurate for the vehicle on e-bay??

Regards,
John

Anoraks rule - just ask my friends on the Star Trek forum .... ;)

The registration year and model year are totally exclusive.

I believe that this seller is claiming that the car is a MY 1998 registered in 1997, this is totally possible except that another member claims that the MY change was in October of that year. It is unlikely that an s-class delivered in August 1997 was built in October of that year or beyond therefore we don't know what the MY is at all - only the VIN or the handbook can settle this :)

Ah...... I see your point ;)

I heard once and have taken it as being industry-standard that the actual motoring-industry's 'year' started on Oct of the previous year. I know the old reg sys was 1 Aug - my brthday is the day after. Maybe tht's where my own particular vehicular interest came from, who knows :)!

If it's Aug 1997 car it's a 1997 MY.

Anyway let's get back to that truly phenomenal "Uprated V8 420 AMG Engine"...
