Safely lifting the rear.

SLK, so rear wheel drive and rear handbrake.
How would you guys go about lifting the rear high enough to get underneath?
Ideally, I'd like both rear wheels off the ground a fair bit.
Chock the front wheels, or something better?
 
Chock the fronts (I use house bricks in front and behind the front wheels).......and jack away, then put axles stands under either side.........jobs a goodun'.

I can't think of a better way to be fair.

Wheel ramps depending on what you need to get to .
Otherwise I jack both my cars on the rear diff (chock front wheels) , then put axle stands under the rear jack points, with those rubber jack pads that slot in . It’s a 3 ton big floor jack from SGS

I bought a 3 ton floor jack from SGS recently too! It's a low profile, high lift thing, and it's wonderful. I was fed up trying to work out how to jack the car up AND get jack stands under the jacking points, so now I can lift either end high enough to get jack stands under both sides. It's a game-changer.

In case anyone's interested, I've made jack pads by (3D) modelling the top part of the factory jack and then adapting it to a few different scenarios: 3D model on Printables
I must get around to updating that model with the version that I made to suit the bigger pad size of the SGS jack.

What does your axle stand look like? One of the options in my 3D model above is designed to sit on top of an axle stand.

Holding up was not my thought.
Rolling forward is what worried me.

Haven’t got a link but bought both the “insert” ones and the sit on top of the Halfords axle stands ones from the bay of fleas. £10 for each pair.. they have been very good.
 
Jack on the rear Diff, axle stands in place on both sides, remove jack. Put wheels as close to the axle stands as possible as another 'last resort' safety measure.

I have a SGS 3 ton jack plus stands.
It was the front wheels rolling that worried me.
My most recent cars have been front wheel or quattro drive, so never needed to think about it.

Careful if jacking on the diff , it's possible to crack the case.

Has this ever happened? Sounds like one of those urban myths.
Most manufactures recommend using that as a jacking point. Diffs are normally cast metal, one of the strongest points.
 
I won't jack under a diff. Research 'spreading a diff' and realise they are not infinitely rigid.
