SANEF Toll Tag

Reviving an old thread...

After eurotunnel emailed me saying that the dates I was travelling are particularly busy, and could I make sure I was at the tunnel on time I decided to bite the bullet and get a sanef tag. Yes, it's more expensive, but at least I may save some time on the roads (and not need to wake swmbo up every hour to take a ticket/pay).

After doing that, I got sent a referral link - if someone signs up from my link, we both get 5 euros off the first bill. Better than a kick in the groin; and pays for the first year's fee (6€ - so almost all of it).

So, if you're thinking of getting a tag - there's still time before xmas (they do next day delivery) and you can get both me and you 5€ off :p

Eurotunnel are doing a special offer (Sanef Tolling - Eurotunnel Le Shuttle) on the SANEF toll tag (a little gadget that helps you beat the queues on french toll booths... in theory).

Question is, have people found these of use? I usually pay by card at the booths, and can't think of times that I've seen massive queues...

Also - when they charge you, do they charge in Euros or GBP? If in sterling, what exchange rate do they use?

Just trying to decide if to continue on a card, or move to one of these things...

It`s a "no brainer" from my point of view.
Little or no queues
Seeing the French being surprised at an English plate being allowed through!
No need to carry cash for the purpose of paying the Toll
No need to rush to the other side of the car to pay
Being billed approx. 6 weeks later and English Bank A/c being debited in Sterling.

Go for it !

It's an old thread ;) Revived only because I bought one :p I never carry cash on French motorways, the cash lanes are too slow. The card lanes tend to be much faster (and IIRC shared with the travelcards) so there rarely is any queue there...

The being billed in sterling I'm not a fan of if I must admit, my card converts euro to sterling at a reasonable rate which is what I tend to use.

That said, if traffic is bad enough for eurotunnel to worry (never had this before, and I use them >10 times a year) then I'm willing to go prepared :p
