Out of nosiness, where from? The CD Walkman is bust, so I thought I'd borrow the wife's iPod. For £1, I guess it plugs into the headphone socket, rather than the docking connector?
Ian.

E bay where else:D search jack to jack lead poss wrong though will let you know when it turns up.

Its a male to male jobby so assuming it goes into same hole as docking station does, not to fussed as 1, its not my car and 2, it only £1.

Is there not a software upgrade then, so it will use a 6 digit postcode as oppossed to a 4??

Just ordered one. Well, for £1 what could possibly go wrong...

For mine, I don't think so - I'm using DVD-COMAND APS version 6.2, 2006.
I believe the hard disk based COMAND in more recent models is better.

Dont you need to get the COMAND unit reprogrammed to accept an ipod or whatever plugged into this socket?
Or is it all simply plug n play?

This is to get audio from any external device to play through the 'AUX' input into COMAND. No control of the device through the car system, other than volume.
For a quid, I thought it was worth playing with.
Ian.

A male to male jack lead really is all that's required.

If it sounds quiet, check the device to make sure the volume is turned up to the maximum and ensure any features that normalise sound levels across all tracks are turned off - otherwise, all music will be normalised to the volume of the quietest.

Cheers, it's a pet hate of mine when people call it Command or COMMAND.

In a W203 COMAND is Sat Nav. If factory fitted you should have the Aux-In connector in the glove box. It's not that easy to spot, I didn't realise we had it in our W203, when I took it to Braybrooks to have a CD Changer fitted after buying the car I asked them to install the Aux In whilst the car was with them, they showed me that I already had it! :o

Would this also apply to a CLK W209 with Comand & CD Changer?

Probably - best take a look in the glovebox - easy to spot when you know it's there. It's when you don't know it's there that you're unlikely to find it unaided!!

Yes it should do. Look i your glvebox for a connector similar to that shown in Bobby_Dazzlers picture earlier in this thread.

Just had a look in my W203..................AND THERE IT WAS ! ! ! ! :bannana:

I never noticed it before.

So...........

Does this mean I can plug in any mp3 or CD player (for example)?

And if I get the COMAND unit reprogrammed with a star unit it can be controlled through the steering wheel buttons?

Or can this control only be accomplished when using a proper iPod player?

Excuse my ignorance.....................:wallbash:

Yes, anything that will connect via a 3.5 mm jack plug.

This is the AUX input to the COMAND - no control is possible, reprogrammed or otherwise, I'm afraid.
Operation is completely independent of the type of music source. I'm having a play 'cos we've got no end of CD players, MP3 players and DAB radios kicking round the house.
Ian.

You can only control the playback volume via COMAND or steering wheel buttons when using the auxillary input. Will work with any device with an earphone socket - even a cassette player.

I always thought that TV channels should broadcast their audio on the radio. No problem with an auxillary input though as you can playback audio from a handheld TV through COMAND - never done it though.

Back in the day........when I was a shortwave DX enthusiast in the early 1960's you could get BBC sound with any radio that covered between the 19m band and the 25m band. BBC TV audio was on about 22 metres in a dead area. Its not there now of course...........:(

Cable turned up plugged in and it works a treat:) not bad for a quid.

Select sys button click on aux and away it goes.
