Looking for sugestions for best value Sat Nav. Just a basic one with UK.
Confused with all the different ones?

My 2p is to stick with TomTom or Garmin, as they look to be better developed products than lesser known brands.

More recently I'm now favouring Garmin, but only because I have found my rather expensive TomTom to be lacking in some features.

At the time the cheapest place for my TomTom was: Buy Sat Nav TomTom Garmin HTC PDA Tom Tom GPS Cheap - Reviews
They also sell factory reburfished ones if you're on a budget.

Im assuming you mean an external unit that you stick to the window or dash.

If so, then a TomTom Go or similar TomTom models should fit the job description perfectly.

I just spend £60 for Garmin from ebay. Ive been with Garmin for last 5 years - highly recommend. It comes with everything you need for basic level of GPS service.

Very nice unit with nice feature of Fuel consuption chalange (indicate score the more efficant you drive :D) - its more like a game then a true indication but I would say worth on cars without trip computer.

If I remeber right it was from supplier from Sheffield and model was Nuvi 210 or 205. It has full UK maps.

If you want something more advanced I suggest units with lane selection so they will pinpoint what lane to take on huge intersections.

TomTom XL as this has the wide screen.

I suggest the TomTom Go 550 Live. You can get it from dabs.com for £180. Comes with a carry case, and 12 months Live subscription, which includes traffic updates, weather, Google local search.

Also has bluetooth and lane guidance.

Hi
I've always had Tom toms in the past but as the last 2 units have packed up after 15 month. I've been looking around for a replacement unit and to be honest it seems to me Garmin have edged ahead customer support and updates are the 2 main issues, Tom tom charge a fortune for updates, with the Garmin unit you can pay a one off fee also Garmin are much easier to contact by phone for advice

From what I have used TomTom / Garmin I'm happier using TomTom

Seem easier to use, update add POI's etc.

Wife has a TomTom One Europe, very small / slim for carrying round. I would have gine for the XL model but she liked the small one for carrying.

Check the TomTom website as you can buy a reconditioned one pretty cheap on their and it will probably come with some warranty?

Yep, I used the TomTom XL for a couple of years (before I got my COMAND) and it was great! I used it in the US and Europe as well as the UK.

TomTom everytime. Ever since sat nav took off I have had in-car nav, but always also have a TomTom (on PDA then Phone, then dedicated device) for my trips to the US. Currently got a Go 950 Live and it works spot on. Oddly I have never used it in the UK :)

No it,s not hard wired.I have removed the cigarette lighter from its place in the ash tray and it now lives behind the ash tray panel. The navs power unit is still plugged into the lighter and sealed in heat shrink sleeving. The wire is brought through a hole in the back of the oddments tray and the nav is mounted using a Tom Tom mounting disc stuck to the top of the tray and using the Tom Tom universal mount. The Nav can be completely removed when required.
