Still got the SL. Has 8k miles on it now. Car is very good, only complaint I have is the same complaint I had when I got it, and that's the suspension is oversprung and under damped for a Merc. It's probably perfect at 150 on an Autobahn but on our roads it's a bit bouncy at times. Bit of a minor quibble really! I've been tempted to tweak some more power out of it but honestly, it's so stupid fast it would be pointless. Car is very brutish, drives like a beefy yank car rather than a european sports car, it's definitely a hot rod, not a race car.
Yes, I've got a 72 300 SEL 6.3, it's in pieces at the moment and I hope to crack into the restoration this coming winter. It's in fantastic condition, I'm just giving it a new paintjob really. 100k miles FMBSH from new, two owners. Should be some pics on the forum somewhere. Wonderful old beast and a keeper forever!
