Hi I have 2003 w211 with 128k mls. How do I check when to do a SBC reset. As I understand when you get a red warning light its too late. Also can you do a reset at anytime without causing SBC problems:dk:

As I understand SBC, you cannot "reset" the pump until you get a warning message. You then have to hook the car up to STAR and read the fault code to see how to progress.

If the code is C249F, there is a possibility of resetting the pump actuations, but this isn't cast in stone. Some indies can/will do it, I doubt a main dealer would.

If you can't reset the pump, you'll need a new one at around £650 + labour if you source it yourself. Around £1200 - 1300 at the dealer.

Hopefully an indy will correct me if I'm wrong.

You will get a white warning when the pump reaches the point when it thinks it needs looking at.
When it is connected to STAR the pump has stored relevant information about itself.
How long does it take to raise pressure and cycle periodicity etc.
This will determine if the pump can be reset because if the pump thinks it is too worn to be reset then it will not allow it.
You can also see how many actuations the pump has carried out when connected.
Resetting the pump using Star requires developer mode and is a relatively simple operation as long as you follow the steps.

Any decent indy competent on Star can do it.

Hi thanks for the info, I have no warning messages at the moment but was thinking I could prevent the deadly red with a bit of pre-emtive work. I have recently spent a few thousand £ on the car with new suspension, brakes, tyres g/box service and major service so another £2k would be the end of the car as my wife has said no more indeed no more cars once this one dies as we are both retired and she recons we only need 1 car and hers was new last year, but is only a Hyundai i20

you can age the pump from its serial number on the top , with luck like mine the pump was changed shortly before i bought my car . February 2014 which was nice. :D:bannana:

Mine kept going, sold the car at 180k miles and no issues.

Rplaced sbc unit at 180000 miles with used one because of red message and the brake pedal goes in the end.

I'm in exactly the same boat. Just spent £1500 on brakes, MOT etc and no money left in the kitty. Having it diagnosed on Tuesday, but still driving it with the white warning message on. Hope it doesn't go to RED.

Because a red light spells Danger.

Good luck with yours. Maybe we will both get lucky. Mine's done 145,000 m.
