SCN Datacard Update

Hi,

I recently retrofitted something to my W211. Went to get the SCN Datacard updated and everything was going as planned until MB Germany refused to update it due to "Saftey Concern". Anyone else have any problems lately getting their SCN Datacards updated? and have found a solution to getting it done?

What did you get retrofitted and by whom?
 
I can understand MB washing thier hands from a liability perspective unless it was a MB dealer that sourced all the parts and done the fitting.

So what was fitted and by who and where did the parts come from.

Some retrofits are no longer supported as you have found out. What did you try to have added?
 
Apologies all, I forgot to mention the retrofits. So I retrofitted electric boot closer and distronic.

...I sourced all the parts (used) and fitted the hardware myself. The distronic is the pre-facelift one with the control module under the drivers seat.

The electric boot closer works as its a used unit so the programming side of things was already done. Just the datacard and option in the IC is missing.

The distronic, the garage got everything programmed including the IC and the switch but the last obstacle is the datacard update.

Does the SCN Datacard need updating in order for these 2 retrofits to work correctly?

Also its currently being looked into by an independant specialist rather then dealers. They are trying their best.
 
An independent workshop would not get the datacard changed if the headquarters rejected the request. Quite expected for Distronic, perhaps less for the boot closer.

You can handle the coding manually, no need to have the datacard updated although it would have made coding simpler. You would unlikely need any future SW updates for a W211, no problem with the datacard missing a few options.
 
No chance of having data card updated. Data card is for factory fit items.

Second hand items and done DIY.....hmmmm (no disprespect to your workmanship).

As a side - be sure to inform your insurance company.

Well, I had the datacard of my S203 updated with all my retrofits. All done by Comand.co.uk. included bi-xenons, COMAND, linguatronic, telephone, Burr walnut trim, rain sensor .... That was a few years back though

Ahh, that would be fine with me. Just want the stuff to work. Not too concerned about datacard tbh.

Are the retrofits not working, that was not mentioned in your initial post!

if that is the case, your car needs the ecus interrogating and programmed by someone with STAR assuming you have the right ECUs and SAMs

Not in the initial post but mentioned it in post #6. Essentially yes that is what is happening at the moment where the garage is looking into these modules etc.

The electric boot lid is working correctly. Just the option in the Instrument Cluster is not there. Where you can have it open full or half.

The distronic, last I checked, everything was updated but believe they need to code the ESP.
 
Ok good stuff, a good indy will see you right. In essence anything can be retrofitted its just the cost and execution thats a bug bear.

I'd expect them to be able to update the datacard for boot closer, but probably not for Distrionic - Mercedes seem to have blocked updates for anything that can control the vehicle. Does make sense but a pain for retrofits :-)
 
Yeah I hope so. Im not too fussed about getting the datacard update but just want the retrofits to work. The last stage is the ESP, but they need the passcode to go into the ESP module which MB Germany aren't giving so...I am doubtful now

What sort of a workshop is it, do they use a genuine diagnostics tool? I did not have a look at the topic but sounds like they are trying special functions. Might need a different tool now that SCN coding is not available.

I retro fitted distronic on my 2006 MY CLS55 and programmed it on my STAR no problem at all though mine was the later single ECU version.
No data card updated (at that time) and no SCN Code required.

I also retro-fitted Distronic, flappy paddles, panoramic roof and other bits in 2019/20 to my 2007 SL. All went through coding (and in the case of Distronic a proper driving setup) OK and were added to the datacard.
I do know MB have hugely restricted what they accept you can modify - they like their vehicles to stay pretty much exactly as they left the factory ( think liability issues relating to modification facilitation)

Yep, they are a legit MB Specialist. They said they do a lot of retrofits and are able to do them within the hour usually.
