Hi

I was wondering if any forum members had access to any scrap aluminium plate?

I am doing a wee project on my motor bike (mounting a Street Pilot III) and need to fashion 2 plates. Each plate needs to be approx 100mm X 20 mm X 5 mm thick.

Grateful for any assistance.

Email me direct at normanremovethe obviousattheboyes.force9.co.uk

Removethe obvious and substitute the symbol for 'at'

Last week I told some of the lads to get rid of a small mountain of aluminium we had collected, loads of flat plate etc but of no use to us whatsoever.
Got £1,300 from the scrappy though :D

Bet Normans really pleased to hear that :D

(offence not intended)

I should be able too help you out there if still needed :D

I shall pop into work tomorrow morning and cut some up,I'll PM you when done.

i'd advise stainless - at least it bends before cracking...

i'd also just go to your nearest sheet metal fabricator - and look in the skip / bin outside - or wander in and ask some bloke if he can cut you a piece x by x - oh and heres a pint for you..

works for me...

you ever tried bending 18/8 stainless, or even drilling it without a pillar drill? Aluminium anneals very easy and work hardens too.

Hi Guy

I take your point, however, I will be working this material at home with hand (hacksaw and file) and power tools (drills) - stainless is a wee bit tougher to work with at home, not impossible but not as 'friendly'. The material will not be under significant stress because I am using it in a stiffening application to support a plastic moulding. The weight of the GPS will act through the stiffener and via webs to the handlebars.

Thanks for the tip on the skip, Pluggers has offered to help.

Cheers

can you make two?

i have a TDM850 and a streetpilot III :)

theres a company in sheffield who sell the item (bmw hiss spit branded)

Ive got the pieces cut and am now at home,Can you PM me with some contact info and I can send it off to you via post.
PS I cut 4 strips off just in case.
Regards
mark
