Covered a 200 mile round trip in the E Class yesterday and noticed a couple of things. Firstly I was still giggling at some of the parts of Top Gear, and secondly that by the end of the journey I had to raise the seat fractionally to maintain the same proportion of the Mercedes bonnet star in veiw. Now I am aware that due to gravitational effects we are all slightly shorter by the time we go to bed than when we get up, but have never noticed this effect in any other car. A thermo-plastic effect? At just 65kgs, I don't compete with some of our German or American friends in the wieght department so is it me, the seat or just nit-picking?

Hello.

I would imagine its just like your sofa at home. Eventually you would sink into the material and cushioning to some degree after such an extended drive as you would while watching TV, especially if it was Midsomer Murders ;) .

If you wished to, or were to, maintain the exact same elevation so to speak throughout then you would need to be on a solid surface which would not be very comfy I would guess after just a few miles let alone two hundred.

So yes, maybe a bit picky :p :D

In order to eliminate the possibility of MacSag you need to measure yourself in the morning and evening!

Right! I'm off to develop Macactive eye height control! Now the Lexus LS 460 I used last week could tell me if I had a long blink, and as I have got memory seats I'm sure we could link the technology.....no your right, I'm just being picky, nothing much else to complain about on a really nice car!:D

Serious answer. What I think happens as you get tired is you slump forward more. Same when standing. May stand erect first thing in morning, but after a long day we tend to stoop more. Push your head back against the headrest and straighten your back up when you get tired. Maybe add a bit more lumbar control? Stop and have a walk??

Our 211is just three years old and the seats show absolutely no signs of sag, brewers droop etc ;) :)

I think Hawk20 has hit the nail on its proverbial cranium. :)

You get compression in the spinal column during the day, and this returns to normal overnight when lying down.

I find that I have to adjust the rvm at the end of the day - asked the specialist about this and he confirmed the above compression.

Yup I've always been aware of having to adjust the mirror at the end of the day or towards the end of a long drive, in all my cars.

This is why, if you have back problems its better to see the bone doctor at the end of the day rather than the start of the day.

Did you know that Land-Rover invented the curry hook to stop slop on the way home from the take-away?

I spend a lot of the day at work on my feet and I quite often have to adjust the rear view mirror on the way home because it's set too high. In the mornings I then have to move it back again, I can only put this down to shrinking slightly during the day which I believe everyone does, you are supposed to be at your tallest when you get up in the morning.

It was actually invented by Nissan.

Personally I always have my rear view mirror set a teeny bit high to that every time I look in it it reminds me to sit up straight and not slouch.

I was given that advice by a physiotherapist I saw regarding neck pains and it does work. Slouching forward tenses up the muscles in the back of my neck and gives me tension headaches.

Sitting up really straight feels strange for a few days but then just becomes natural.

Or perhaps your bottom is sagging at an alarming rate
